How Dozer Production is Calculated
Production depends on blade capacity, cycle time, material type, slope, and operator efficiency. The biggest variable is push distance — doubling the distance roughly halves production.
Cycle Time Formula
Approximate cycle time = (push distance ÷ 200 fpm loaded) + (push distance ÷ 400 fpm return) + 0.3 min gear change. Actual speeds vary by machine and ground conditions.
Material Load Factors
Loose soil: 1.0 — full blade load
Gravel: 0.9 — slightly harder to hold in blade
Compacted soil: 0.8 — harder to cut, less blade fill
Wet clay: 0.7 — sticks to blade, reduces capacity
Blasted rock: 0.6 — irregular pieces, blade can't fill completely
Slot Dozing vs Open Dozing
Slot dozing (pushing in the same track) builds windrows on the sides, reducing spillage. It's 20-30% more efficient than open pushing. This calculator assumes open pushing — add ~25% for slot dozing operations.
